Mokey is in training for 110+ days with Richard Hames and will be available for adoption to approved applicants at the ATFO event in August 2025. Follow her progress at #hopteammokey
From trainer June 2025:
Mokey has come leaps and bounds in this first 30+ days. She went from completely evading pressure or fighting pressure to becoming pretty willing on most fronts. She has been successfully shown with minimum amounts of sass at 3 shows in this short amount of time.
Mokey currently stands just under 12.1 at the wither and just under 12.2 at the butt. She is showing great promise to be an all around filly who is truly enjoying human connection of all ages. She is inquisitive and can be sometimes a little too inquisitive with her mouth, but never malicious (she will lip you, grab her own lead rope, or test grab anything she can). She has excelled in her little amount of training thus far.
Mokey loves other horses at a distance, but will squeal, paw, or turn to kick other horses if not being paid attention to (the squealing is as far as she has gone up to this point, but that's because I remain hyper aware of her body language). She has been handled by beginners, intermediate, and advanced handlers, but I would strongly recommend an intermediate handler or beginner with an active trainer. This recommendation is simply because of her age and some past tendencies I have seen from her.
Mokey could easily excel in the show ring, definitely has already exceeded all expectations in the competitive trail category, she truthfully could become an amazing EXCA gal in her future, or just become an amazing trail partner.
Up to this point what has Mokey accomplished....

standing for basic grooming essentials

stands fairly well for the farrier

ties and cross ties

hobbles

loads and backs off a trailer (ramp or step up)

ponies from another horse

longlines and ground drives

sidepasses both directions

leads, backs, and pivots

crosses tarps, waterboxes, trash boxes, jumps, bridges, creeks, mud puddles, pedestals, cowboy curtains

stands for a bath

ties at the trailer (will paw for awhile but settles better and faster every trip)
Adoption Info:
Horses adopted are typically up to date on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs.
Horses are typically located in the Appalachian area, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply!
We are looking to adopt to safe homes.
A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first-time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons.
Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters.
Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no-fail process for finding the right match.
