Adoption Overview $950

Split The Wickets

10 year old thoroughbred gelding bred in KY
Gio Ponti (Tale OF The Cat) out of Goalkeeper by Arch
Eligible for the Retired Racehorse Project's
THOROUGHBRED MAKEOVER COMPETITION!

16.2 hands. He last worked on 8/3/24 and retired with bone bruising and arthritis in his fetlocks. He is sound and ready to be trained for a new discipline.

Wick is an intelligent and well-intentioned gelding who is doing well in walk, trot, canter rides in the arena. He is forward and suitable for an experienced but not necessarily professional rider. He has a wonderful canter and will be quite fun to develop for low level sport use.

Wick will need a farm setting that ensures turnout with geldings only, or solo turnout near the barn. He is very polite during feed hour and for blanketing. He stands well for the farrier and vet. He does well on crossties with close supervision.

He will be best suited for flat work, eventing at starter level, and jumping up to 2', including hopping over logs and other low impediments on trails.

He was castrated on 7/10/25 and still shows some interest in mares.

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS EVENT: All horses will be half off the listed adoption fee if adopted and picked up by 12/15/25. Limited use horses and companions will have a waived fee for qualified and responsible homes that can commit to a lifetime home or will return the horse to Second Stride if no longer able to keep the horse and can’t find an appropriate home.
