Gabriel

Gabriel (Gabe) was one of 8 horses taken by the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department in June 2017. The owner was a Thoroughbred trainer who had all but stopped caring for the horses. The sheriff's department had been involved with the owner for several months trying to help him remediate the situation, but eventually got a court order to take custody and rehome all 8 horses. Gabe has been in several foster homes since being with Easy R Equine Rescue. He also spent time with two trainers, with a year in between each one. The first trainer said Gabe didn't retain much from ride to ride, and abruptly sent him back after 2 months. We came to learn later that the trainer might not have spent as much time with Gabe as he had said. The second trainer had him for about 45 days and said she didn't feel comfortable riding him because it appeared he had arthritis in his hocks. Arthritis or no, Gabe can run around the paddock, rear up while playing with his horse friends, and run like the wind at his current foster home with another Easy R rescue, Junebug. Initially, Gabe was very tentative around people and quite skittish with sudden movements and noises. He still can be a little jumpy but calms quickly. He is very interested in other horses and likes to be part of the herd. He can often be seen participating in mutual grooming and playing with other horses. In terms of rideability, we highly recommend that Gabe is adopted as a companion only horse. He has shown too many signs that he would be unpredictable under saddle. He does have a lip tatoo but we have been unable to determine what all the numbers are. Gabe and Junebug have been together in their foster home for quite awhile and are a very bonded pair. They both have some endearing eccentricities that make them a cute "odd couple". We would love to adopt them out to the same home that would allow them to continue being pasture pets together.
