Fiyero came to Longmeadow at the end of 2024 as part of a warrant case with other horses, all suffering from different types of neglect. It took some time for him to settle into his new life here at Longmeadow. The transition was difficult for most of the horses in his group. Once we obtained legal custody of this gelding, and as soon as he received the necessary vet care he desperately needed, Fiyero was ready to leave our quarantine barns and be evaluated by our trainers.
Fiyero will require a confident adopter, as he tends to misbehave and try his handlers at times. However, with firm but gentle corrections, Fiyero quickly remembers his manners. At times, he can be a bit unfocused. Our trainers and staff members are working on improving Fiyero’s stall manners as well. Fiyero pins his ears and swishes his tail when our staff members approach him outside of his stall. As soon as the staff member enters his stall, however, this behavior disappears. We believe it is a behavior that began at his previous home, but with kindness, training, and maybe a treat (or two), we think his unfavorable stall habits can be fixed.
Fiyero was evaluated by our training team and then examined by a veterinarian. The team has decided that he will not be a riding horse but will make a great companion to other equines. Fiyero has poor conformation which has contributed to his discomfort when ridden. We think it would be unfair to expect him to carry a person of any size. Fiyero does well in a herd with mares and geldings. He tends to be middle ranking and doesn't stir up trouble. He could go to a home with a person who wants to do groundwork training on the flat with him.
Despite his antics, Fiyero is a handsome gelding who deserves a home where he can learn how it feels to be spoiled and loved. He has an endearing underbite and enjoys spending time out in the paddock with his equine buddies. He stands well for our farrier and has cute little quirks that make him stand out among the other horses. He will need to go to a home with an advanced handler to ensure he lives up to his best potential.
