HOMER
ADOPT HOMER (a.k.a. Chuck). His rehab has been a very long and very trying one. But we are happy to report that this week our vet said he is finally ready to find a person of his own.
He will make a gentle and kind pal. He is NOT available for any sort of riding or driving.
Homer will need special accommodations.
He is currently on 1/2 tablet of Prascend daily for Cushings.
He is currently on 1/4 tablet of Equioxx daily for arthritis.
He will require front shoes for the foreseeable future and a good farrier who stays on a regular schedule.
Homer had heaves symptoms at intake. However at his current foster home he is stalled in an open type enclosure with round pen type sides, bedded with pine shavings and he is having NO symptoms.
An adopter should be prepared for possible flare ups in the future, especially in the peak of hot/damp weather. When he has symptoms they can be managed fairly easily with medication and environmental adjustments.
He is able to eat hay and grain normally.
He is still underweight. He came to us extremely thin and facing other health problems. So, the road has been a slow one. But he IS gaining steadily now. An adopter will need to follow our vet's feeding recommendations to help Homer get to the finish line of his ideal weight.
I realize this isn't the most appealing pitch for adoption...but it is entirely honest! The right person for Homer, won't mind his challenges.
While he is on medications, they are small doses and we believe they will be very affordable.
Homer is currently fostered in Summersville, WV.
